Auto-Attack Range Only Comes in 19 Values Across All 173 LoL Champions — Caitlyn's 650 Tops the List, Melee's 125 Covers 45 of Them

We counted every champion's basic attack range in ddragon's data. It only comes in 19 distinct values. Caitlyn's 650 is the longest, melee's baseline 125 is the most common at 45 champions (26%), and Annie's 625 surprisingly beats most ADC ranges.
Across all 173 League of Legends champions, basic attack range only comes in 19 distinct values. The longest is Caitlyn's 650, the shortest is 125 — a gap of exactly 5.2x. We counted it straight from ddragon's data.
What attack range actually is
Attack range is the maximum distance a basic attack can reach. It's assigned individually to each champion, independent of how they look or what role they're labeled. Melee tends to be short and ranged tends to be long, but the actual increments are surprisingly coarse.
All 173 champions fit into 19 tiers
Sorting every champion by range, the top four values alone account for 74% of the roster.
| Range | Champions | Share |
|---|---|---|
| 125 | 45 | 26.0% |
| 550 | 37 | 21.4% |
| 175 | 28 | 16.2% |
| 525 | 18 | 10.4% |
| 150 | 14 | 8.1% |
| 500 | 9 | 5.2% |
125 is the single biggest cluster — a quarter of the entire roster sits on this one number, mostly melee champions. 550 is the standard band for mid-lane mages and ADCs, home to champions like Ahri and Aphelios.
Caitlyn's on top, and Annie is a surprising second
| Rank | Champion | Range |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Caitlyn | 650 |
| 2 | Annie | 625 |
| 3 | Ashe | 600 |
| 3 | Anivia | 600 |
| 3 | Senna | 600 |
Annie out-ranges most ADCs, which is an odd spot for a fire mage to be in. Ashe, Anivia and Senna's 600 also sits a notch above the standard ADC band of 525-550.
There's a pattern on the short end too
The opposite extreme has its own interesting outliers.
| Champion | Range | Note |
|---|---|---|
Irelia | 200 | longest among melee |
Viego | 200 | longest among melee |
Nilah | 225 | tagged Marksman |
Urgot | 350 | double the melee standard |
Nilah, officially tagged a Marksman, actually has a shorter range than the more melee-leaning Irelia. Urgot sits at 350, a clear step above the usual 125-175 melee bruiser range. The 14 champions at 150 — Pyke, K'Sante and Volibear among them — count as a 'near-melee' tier, slightly longer than the purest melee champions.

Takeaway
Attack range isn't decided by how a champion looks or what role it's labeled — this data shows it's boxed into a small handful of fixed tiers. Outliers like Caitlyn and Annie got their extra reach as a deliberate design choice, and the opposite outliers, like Urgot and Nilah, presumably make up for it elsewhere in their kit — dashes, gap closers, that sort of thing.
