[By the numbers] Mages are showing up bot lane - Xerath farmed 203 CS doing the ADC's job

Measured across 70 recent KR Challenger games. Xerath 14 games, Viktor 13, and bot-lane mages have settled in. They carry with 200-plus CS, yet the win rate sits around even.

I went through the last 70 KR Challenger games and found mages lined up in the bot lane. Xerath 14 games, Viktor 13, Ziggs 11, Syndra 10. This is no longer a rare pick, and mages in bot have settled in as a real option right there in the numbers.

Bot-lane mages by the numbers

Xerath Xerath148-6203.2
Viktor Viktor137-6187.6
Ziggs Ziggs115-6-
Syndra Syndra104-6-

The CS is what stands out. Xerath's 203.2 and Viktor's 187.6 are the same farm an ADC takes. So they are not being tacked on as a support. The mage is carrying the bot lane outright.

Win rates hover around even, so nothing is exploding. But they are not losing more than they win either. This is not a gimmick pick, it runs as one of the normal options.

Why put a mage in bot

Bot is a 2v2, and a range gap turns straight into a health gap. Xerath's Q reaches very far and Ziggs fires from a distance too. Chip away from where the enemy ADC cannot answer and the lane goes one-sided.

Then there are towers. Ziggs breaks them fast with W and R, so the follow-up after winning lane lands hard. Even without kills, the tower falling first is a win.

The weak spots are scaling and teamfights

WeaknessWhat happens
TeamfightsNo sustained chip damage from autos
Dragon contestsSlower at burning down objectives than an ADC
Getting closed downNothing to do once the gap is gone

That is likely why the win rate stalls near even. Strong lane, but it does not stretch into the late game.

Wrap-up

Bot mages are a setup for maximising the lane range gap and cracking a tower. As the 200-plus CS shows, this is neither a joke nor a trick: it stands up perfectly well as a bot-lane carry option.

That said, the roughly even win rate is a fact too. It is not a universal answer. Pull it out when the enemy bot leans melee, that is about the right temperature.

Xerath taking 203 CS in bot is just doing the ADC's job at this point. Win the trade with range, simple and strong.
