HP Regen Extremes: 4x Gap at Level 1, Briar Has Zero For Life, Healer Soraka Near Last

I checked base HP regen across all 173 champions. Briar is the only one with zero, confirmed right in her kit text. The base value gap hits 4x at level 1, Vi tops the level-18 chart, and healer Soraka ends up near the bottom of her own self-regen.

I went through base HP regen (HP5, health restored every 5 seconds) for all 173 champions. Even at level 1 the base values swing by as much as 4x, and there's exactly one champion whose regen stays at zero forever.

What HP5 actually is

Health in LoL slowly regenerates on its own even if you do nothing. The rate depends on a base value plus a per-level growth value, so it climbs as you level up. Since it's measured per 5 seconds, players call it HP5, the same idea as mana regen (MP5), just for the health bar instead.

Briar never regens, for life

Briar is the only champion with 0 HP5 Both her base and growth values are zero, so her natural regen stays at exactly nothing from level 1 to level 18. That's not a stat quirk, her kit text says it outright: she has no innate health regeneration. Instead she bites and slashes to stack bleeds and heals off a cut of the damage she deals, which makes her one of the few champions who's always losing health unless she's actively fighting.

Highest base HP5

Highest base HP5Value
Darius Darius10.0
Vi Vi10.0
Illaoi Illaoi9.5
KSante K'Sante9.5
Singed Singed9.5

Darius and Vi tie for the top spot at 10.0. Excluding Briar's zero, the lowest is 2.5, shared by Ahri, Soraka, Lillia and Rek'Sai, exactly a 4x gap from the top. If poke trades in lane never seem to heal back, this 4x spread might be why.

Growth rate flips the order by level 18

Highest HP5 at level 18Value
Vi Vi27.0
KSante K'Sante26.5
Darius Darius26.15
Gnar Gnar25.75
Braum Braum25.5

Vi tops out at 27.0, edging past Darius who led on base value alone. Gnar is the interesting one, his base is only 4.5, unremarkable, but his growth rate is the highest in the game at 1.25, which rockets him to 4th place by level 18. Names that don't show up in the base ranking suddenly matter once you look at the growth rate instead.

The healer with the worst self-regen

This is the part that surprised me most. Sorted by level-18 HP5, right after Briar's zero comes Soraka in second-to-last place at 11.0. She's the archetypal healer who tops up everyone else's health bar, yet her own natural regen sits at roughly 40% of Vi's. She can patch up her team but stays paper-thin herself, which fits a champion built entirely around supporting others. Rek'Sai shares the same 11.0, which tracks too, she's built around diving in and retreating underground rather than sitting still and healing up.

Takeaway

Every time I dig into base stats for this series, I'm reminded that they rarely match the character fantasy. Tanky-looking champions aren't always tanky, and healers aren't always durable, the raw numbers break those assumptions fast. Briar's confirmed zero is a rare case where Riot spells the design out directly, and it says a lot about how her whole kit is built around risk and reward.

Somebody should tell Soraka she's worse at healing herself than everyone else
