Skin Count Ranking: Akali Leads with 101 Total (Chromas Included), But Miss Fortune Tops the List at 23 Distinct Designs

Comparing skin counts across all 173 champions two ways, chromas included versus distinct designs only. Akali leads the raw total at 101, but switch to counting only genuinely different designs and Miss Fortune takes over with 23.

Counting every skin across all 173 champions, the highest total, chromas included, belongs to Akali with 101. Strip out the color variants and count only distinct designs, though, and Miss Fortune takes the top spot with 23.

What should actually count as a "skin"

ddragon's skin list treats every chroma as its own separate entry. Akali's 101 includes every one of those color variants, count only skins with a genuinely different design and the number drops to 21. Looking at the raw total alone gives a distorted picture. Source: ddragon's official data (patch 16.18.1), covering all 173 champions.

Highest total: Akali. Highest distinct design count: Miss Fortune

Miss Fortune doesn't even crack the total-count top 5 at 75, yet she's the outright leader on distinct designs. Akali is the reverse story, a runaway leader on total count, but tied for third on designs with just 21. Two champions with "a lot of skins" can mean completely different things. Across all 173 champions, the average distinct design count is 11.26 (median 12), and the average total including chromas is 51.7 (median 52). Add it all up and the roster has 1,948 distinct skin designs and 8,947 total skins once every chroma is counted, that's a lot of recolors for an average of about 52 per champion.

The chroma-per-design ratio varies wildly too

Divide total skins by distinct designs and you get the average number of color variants per design. That ratio runs highest for Yuumi at 7.8x, Sett at 7.5x, Senna at 7.18x, and Kha'Zix at 7.12x. Singed sits at just 2.33x, Jax at 2.53x, Dr. Mundo at 2.64x, barely a third of Yuumi's rate. Even more striking, the two newest champions, Locke and Zaahen, each have exactly one distinct design so far, but that single skin already ships with 9 chromas, a 9.0x ratio, higher than Yuumi's. A design that's barely out the door is already getting more color variants than most of the roster ever built up. New skins seem to launch with a much bigger chroma set built in from day one these days. Singed and Jax's older skins predate the chroma system as it exists now, so their low ratios make sense, but a gap between 2x and 9x is still a lot.

Takeaway

Akali's 101 is an eye-catching number, but well over half of it is just color variants. Judged purely on costume variety, Miss Fortune is the real leader. And seeing Locke and Zaahen ship a single design with 9 chromas attached shows how much the approach to releasing skins has shifted in just the last few years.

Teemo
Akali dropping to a three-way tie for third once you strip out the chromas was honestly more surprising than I expected.
