Korean challenger Rengar one-trick 抖音阿甘爱跑步#xtz小弟: 55% overall, 62% lately. A full breakdown from build to runes to matchups, using public match data.
On the Korean server, there's a challenger one-trick who has piled up 720,000 mastery points on Rengar alone. The player's name is "抖音阿甘爱跑步#xtz小弟", currently at LP 2600. Their overall win rate is 55% (347-286), and lately it's been running hot at 62%. We dissect their last 40 games in full, using their build and win/loss data.
What kind of champion is Rengar?
Rengar is a jungle assassin who lurks in bushes and leaps out. His defining trait is casting empowered abilities from a bush — in short, he's a champion who melts opponents in an instant through bush control and pouncing.
Passive (Unseen Predator): leaps at an enemy from a bush. Attacks build "Ferocity," and at four stacks each ability gets empowered
Q (Savagery): empowers his next basic attack. With Ferocity, it deals area damage and heals him
W (Battle Roar): heals himself and damages nearby enemies. With Ferocity, it also clears crowd control
E (Bola Strike): a thrown bola that slows. With Ferocity, it roots instead
R (Thrill of the Hunt): goes invisible for a time while tracking enemies and closing in. His pounce gets empowered
The data from wins and losses
- Deaths: 3.8 in wins → 6.1 in losses. Losses see roughly 1.6x more deaths
- Kills: 13.2 in wins → 8.0 in losses. Wins bring about 1.65x more
- Damage per minute: 1053 in wins → 721 in losses. Winning games see him deal roughly 1.5x more
- Kill participation: 60% in wins / 61% in losses. Practically identical
That last point is the core of it. Kill participation barely moves between wins and losses — he's always involved in the fighting. The difference is whether, having gotten involved, he finished the job without dying. Leap in, melt the target, back out unscathed — that efficiency is what decides whether he wins or loses.
Some matchups just don't go his way
The opponent he's faced most recently, and against whom he's struggled the most, is Lee Sin (3-5, 38% win rate). An enemy jungler who seizes the initiative early, and if Rengar gets shut down before he can leap, his whole game plan breaks. Next is Nasus (33%). On the flip side, he's strong against Kayn, Sylas and Nidalee (undefeated against all three) and Bel'Veth (67%).
Runes, summoner spells and boots shift by matchup
- Keystone: mainly Fleet Footwork (13 of 18 games). For games expected to get messy, he switches to Conqueror (5 games)
- Summoner spells: locked in as Smite plus Flash
- Boots: Mercury's Treads and Ionian Boots of Lucidity split roughly evenly. Mercury's when CC and AP are heavy, otherwise Ionian for the cooldown reduction
Build
| Item | When | Note |
|---|---|---|
Edge of Night | Almost always first (13 of 18) | Starts his lethality. Extends the punch of his opening pounce |
Profane Hydra / Tiamat | Early | Area clearing and extra mobility |
Umbral Glaive | Core (12) | Grants vision while adding penetration |
Serpent's Fang | Against shields (10) | Shreds healing and shields |
Mortal Reminder / Lord Dominik's Regards | When facing tanks | Adds armor penetration |
Abilities go Q first (Q into E into W). Q from a bush to build damage, E to lock the target down.
What to take from this OTP
- For Rengar, cutting down deaths matters more than boosting kill participation
- Keep fixed: Smite plus Flash, Q-first leveling, opening with Edge of Night
- What to change: boots (Mercury's / Ionian) and keystone (Fleet Footwork / Conqueror) by matchup
- Lee Sin gives him a hard time early, so shutting him down where possible is worth prioritizing
