Kalista's Base HP Ranks 162nd — By Level 18 She's 35th. Galio Goes From 121st to #1

We compared base HP vs. per-level growth across all 173 Data Dragon champions. Kalista climbs 127 ranks; Kayle and Amumu collapse late. Base HP barely predicts growth (r=0.358).

Kalista's base HP is 560, ranking 162nd out of 173 champions — bottom 12, about what you'd expect from a fragile ADC. Level her up to 18, though, and that number balloons to 2498, jumping to 35th place overall. That's a 127-spot climb, the biggest swing among every champion we checked.

HP is base value plus growth, added up

A champion's level-1 HP is just the base stat. Level 18 HP is that base plus the per-level growth stat (hpperlevel) applied 17 times. High base HP with weak growth gets overtaken late; low base HP with steep growth catches up. We pulled every champion's stats straight from Data Dragon (patch 16.18.1, all 173 champs) and ranked HP at both level 1 and level 18 to see who swapped places.

Champions who transform by level 18

ChampionLv1 rankLv18 rankHP (Lv1→Lv18)
Kalista Kalista162nd35th560→2498
Galio Galio121st1st600→2742
Sylas Sylas124th4th600→2674
Qiyana Qiyana134th22nd590→2545
Akali Akali116th8th600→2623
Orianna Orianna159th62nd565→2435

Galio starts as a middling 121st in raw HP and ends up 1st in the entire game at level 18, hitting 2742 HP. His growth stat of 126 beats out Ryze's 124 and Sylas's 122 — the single highest HP growth in the game. Ryze, Sylas and Akali follow the same pattern: unremarkable early HP that quietly turns into frontline-tank numbers by the late game. Nobody talks about them as "tanky," but by level 18 the raw number says otherwise.

And champions who fall off hard

ChampionLv1 rankLv18 rankHP (Lv1→Lv18)
Kayle Kayle8th153rd670→2234
Udyr Udyr13th154th664→2228
Sion Sion21st161st655→2134
Amumu Amumu4th141st685→2283
Singed Singed32nd144th650→2282
Chogath Cho'Gath44th150th644→2242

Kayle opens at 670 base HP, good for 8th overall, but her growth stat is a modest 92, dropping her to 153rd by level 18. Amumu is the wildest case: 4th in base HP, 141st by level 18 — a 137-spot fall. Early tankiness and late tankiness are decided by completely different numbers. That said, Amumu and Cho'Gath were never built to tank purely off HP — their kits lean on hard CC and damage reduction instead.

Base HP barely predicts growth

The correlation between base HP and per-level growth across all 173 champions is just 0.358 — weak and positive at best. A high starting HP tells you almost nothing about how tanky a champion ends up. Average base HP sits at 616.7, average level-18 HP at 2383 — a 3.86x multiplier overall. Kalista's 4.46x blows past that average; for a "squishy ADC," her scaling curve is genuinely elite.

Takeaway

Judging a champion's endgame tankiness off their level-1 numbers is a trap. Some, like Kalista, quietly outscale their reputation. Others, like Kayle and Amumu, never keep the early-game durability they start with. If you want to know who's actually tanky at 18, check the growth stat, not the base one.

Galio out-growing Ryze in raw HP scaling is not something I expected from a shield-tank.
