League has 62 runes across its five trees. The row with the most options isn't a minor slot — it's the keystone row, with 17 choices. And within that 17, only Precision and Sorcery offer 4 keystones; Domination, Inspiration, and Resolve all stay at 3.

What this number actually is

The rune page has you pick one of five trees — Precision, Domination, Sorcery, Resolve, Inspiration — as your primary, choosing a keystone from the first slot plus one rune each from the next three slots. Your secondary tree contributes two more runes from a different tree. What's being counted here is simply how many runes ddragon's runesReforged data lists in each slot right now — nothing about secondary-tree restrictions or pick rates.

Add up the keystone column and you get 17. Every other slot column totals 15 across the five trees, so the keystone column runs one tree's worth higher than any of them. The row that's supposed to be the single heaviest pick ends up being the one with the most options.

Reading the actual effect text for Precision's four: Press the Attack triggers after "hitting an enemy champion 3 times," Lethal Tempo stacks "when you basic-attack an enemy champion," Fleet Footwork builds stacks "from attacking and moving," and Conqueror stacks "from attacking enemy champions" — every one of them keys off a basic attack. Sorcery's four follow the same shape, just keyed off casting a spell instead. Domination, Inspiration, and Resolve, by contrast, already have clearly separated jobs — Domination leans into burst damage, Inspiration into summoner-spell and sustain utility, Resolve into tank engage — so there wasn't much room for a natural fourth option.
