An analysis of Korean challenger Hecarim one-trick 서릿빛 겨울의 설흔 using public data. No Trinity Force, just Spear of Shojin every game, and deaths that decide the winrate.
Korea's Challenger ladder has a Hecarim one-trick going by 서릿빛 겨울의 설흔. Champion mastery sits at 3.08M points on Hecarim alone, 22.8x more than their second-highest champion. They're sitting at 2418 LP, with a 60% win rate over their last 20 games.
The build is what makes this one interesting. Most jungle Hecarim players lean into Trinity Force or Sundered Sky, but this player runs Spear of Shojin in all 15 of their last 15 games. The keystone isn't the usual Conqueror either, it's Stormraider's Surge (13/15 games). This is an ability haste build built entirely around spamming Rampage. Here's what the public match data actually shows.
Kill participation over the last 20 games sits at a healthy 58.3%, meaning this player is almost always in the fight.
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Win rate | 60% (12W-8L) |
| KDA | 3.62 |
| Avg K/D/A | 8.0 / 4.6 / 8.7 |
| CS per min | 8.4 |
| Damage per min | 750 |
| Kill participation | 58.3% |
| Avg game length | 25.0 min |
What Hecarim actually does
A ghostly horse who turns speed straight into power. Keep moving and he snowballs, stop moving and he's dead weight.
| Ability | Name | The gist |
|---|---|---|
| Passive | Warpath | A slice of bonus move speed converts directly into attack damage. The faster he is, the harder he hits |
| Q | Rampage | His bread and butter cleave. Hitting anything with it grows the damage and shrinks the cooldown |
| W | Spirit of Dread | Grants resistances and deals magic damage around him, healing off a share of all damage his team deals |
| E | Devastating Charge | Move speed, unit-collision immunity, and his next auto knocks back with bonus physical damage |
| R | Onslaught of Shadows | Charges to a location dealing magic damage in a line and fearing everyone he lands on |
The more Q connects, the faster it comes back, so landing Q on repeat is what actually deals the damage. The W heal only pays out what he actually deals, too, so standing around doing nothing leaves him surprisingly squishy.
Wins vs. losses: it's all about deaths
Splitting the last 15 games into 8 wins and 7 losses, the gap shows up in kills and deaths.
| Stat | Wins | Losses |
|---|---|---|
| Kills | 11.2 | 4.1 |
| Deaths | 3.0 | 7.0 |
| Assists | 10.4 | 6.1 |
Kills run 2.7x higher in wins, while deaths balloon to 2.3x higher in losses. Hecarim heals off the fights he's actually in, so once he goes down once, he's not getting back to full until the next reset. Deaths are basically the whole story for this player's win rate.
One blowout, one disaster
Same champion, wildly different outcomes. The game against Shaco ended 20/2/10, a snowball that started with an early Death's Dance and Spear of Shojin. The game against Jarvan IV went the other way entirely: 4 kills, 10 deaths, 12 assists, getting caught over and over while the W heal never had a chance to catch up. Same build, completely different game once the early deaths pile up.
Runes and summoners break from the norm
Across the 15 games, the keystone is Stormraider's Surge in 13 of 15 (the other two run Conqueror). The tree is Sorcery primary with Inspiration secondary, an unusual pairing for a jungle Hecarim. Since his own move speed already scales into damage, a keystone that hands out more of it is a natural fit.
- Summoner spells are Smite + Ghost in 14 of 15, matching the aggressive, all-in early game
- Boots are Ionian Boots of Lucidity every single game, all in on cooldown reduction
The build is Spear of Shojin, every time
The core item is Spear of Shojin in all 15 games, followed by Maw of Malmortius (7), Endless Hunger (6), Death's Dance (6), and Black Cleaver (4).
| Slot | Item | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Core | Spear of Shojin | Stacks on ability casts for cooldown reduction, the whole engine behind spamming Rampage |
| Main | Maw of Malmortius | Magic resist and damage in one item, makes him harder to burst down |
| Situational | Death's Dance / Black Cleaver | Bleed damage over time and reduced incoming damage to stretch out fights |
| Boots | Ionian Boots of Lucidity | Every single game. Cooldown, cooldown, cooldown |
Unlike the standard Trinity Force build, this is pure ability haste stacked on top of ability haste to maximize Q uptime. Skill order is Q first, then W, E last (Q/W/E by level 9), prioritizing farm safety and sustain over early ganking pressure from E.
Matchup sample is still thin
The 15 games cover twelve different enemy junglers: Graves, Vi, and Jarvan IV twice each, and Nidalee, Shaco, Rengar, Qiyana, Sylas, Pantheon, Shyvana, Skarner, and Lillia once each. Twelve different matchups with a max of two repeats isn't enough to call a win rate on any single one yet, though the field skews toward junglers who can force an early fight.
What to take from this OTP
- Keep: Spear of Shojin first and Ionian Boots every game. That's the whole engine
- Adapt: Stormraider's Surge is the default, but this player switches to Conqueror depending on matchup and comp
- Focus on: not dying, full stop. Keeping deaths in single digits does more for the win rate here than any extra kill
If you want to try it, starting Spear of Shojin instead of defaulting to Trinity Force isn't a bad shout. Just don't feed while you figure it out.
