Attack Speed Growth Per Level: Gnar Tops All 173 Champs at 6, Jhin & Bel'Veth Sit at Zero

Comparing the automatic attack-speed-per-level stat across all 173 champions. Gnar leads at 6, the lowest tier sits at 1, a 6x gap, while Jhin and Bel'Veth never gain any at all.

Attack speed that grows automatically just from leveling up: across all 173 champions, Gnar tops the list at 6, the lowest tier sits at 1, a 6x gap. Jhin and Bel'Veth take it further, they gain exactly zero, never once through level 18.

What "attack speed growth" actually means

ddragon's attackspeedperlevel is the percentage of attack speed automatically added purely from leveling up, separate from items or runes. It's different from base attack speed (the level 1 starting number), it measures the growth itself. Source: ddragon's official stats (patch 16.18.1), covering all 173 champions.

Fastest growth: Gnar at 6.0, marksmen dominate the top

ChampionGrowth per levelBase attack speed
Gnar Gnar6.00.625
Azir Azir5.00.625
Kalista Kalista4.50.694
Caitlyn Caitlyn4.00.681
Xayah Xayah3.90.658
Kassadin Kassadin3.70.64

Gnar's 6.0 is exactly 6x the lowest tier (1.0), and nearly 2.4x the average across all 173 (2.52). Kalista, Caitlyn, and Xayah landing near the top makes sense, marksmen live and die by their basic attacks, so scaling attack speed purely from levels fits the role. But Gnar and Azir, neither of them marksmen, crack the top too (Azir's summoned soldiers scale off the same number). This isn't something role alone explains, which is what makes it interesting.

Lowest tier: 1.0, and Jinx is somehow down here too

ChampionGrowth per levelBase attack speed
Blitzcrank Blitzcrank1.130.625
Darius Darius1.00.625
Jinx Jinx1.00.625
Mordekaiser Mordekaiser1.00.625
Nautilus Nautilus1.00.706
Yuumi Yuumi1.00.625

Darius, Mordekaiser, and Nautilus sitting low tracks, they're bruisers and tanks. Jinx is the odd one out. A marksman with the lowest-tier growth in the game, a 4.5x gap from Kalista. Her passive, Get Excited!, already spikes her attack speed and move speed every time she gets a takedown, so she doesn't need level scaling to do the job, kill participation covers it. Two marksmen, two completely different growth philosophies.

Jhin and Bel'Veth: zero, permanently

Jhin and Bel'Veth take it even further, their attack speed growth from leveling is flat zero. From level 1 to 18, their basic attack speed doesn't move a fraction. Jhin's cannon, Whisper, is explicitly described in its own tooltip as firing "at a fixed rate", he's built from the ground up as a character whose weapon doesn't speed up. Bel'Veth's basic attacks work on a different system from everyone else too. For both of them, "doesn't scale with level" reads less like an oversight and more like the point.

Takeaway

77% of all champions, 133 of 173, sit in a tight 2 to 4 band, most of the roster is closer together than you'd think. Gnar's 6.0 and Jhin/Bel'Veth's zero are the real outliers on either end. And role doesn't fully explain it either, Jinx at 1.0 and Gnar at 6.0 both break the pattern, this is a stat that only makes sense next to the kit it belongs to.

Teemo
Jinx's attack speed growth being this low kind of stings. Get Excited! is doing all the work.
