Base attack speed at level 1 with no items, and HP growth per level. Lining up every champion's raw stats reveals their design intent.
Line up every champion's "raw numbers" and facts that run against expectation surface. Last time we dug into attack range and movement speed; this time it's attack speed and HP growth. Who's fast, who gets tanky. We ranked it from the base stats of every champion.
Base attack speed: the top is jungle and tank territory
With no items at level 1, the fastest base attack speed belongs not to ADCs but to the jungle and tank crowd.
| Fast base attack speed | Value |
|---|---|
Bel'Veth | 0.85 |
Maokai | 0.80 |
Shen | 0.751 |
Amumu | 0.736 |
Malphite | 0.736 |
The top is Bel'Veth (0.85). A fighter who clears the jungle at speed, and true to a kit that gets faster the more she hits, she's the fastest of all champions from the base value alone. Below her come Maokai, Shen, Amumu and Malphite, all tanks. An ADC's attack count is built through items and levelling, so the raw value is actually low.
The slowest is, of all things, a marksman
| Slow base attack speed | Value |
|---|---|
Graves | 0.475 |
Annie | 0.610 |
Akali | 0.625 |
The slowest is Graves (0.475). Classified as a marksman but actually played in the jungle, it's a genuine oddity that he ranks dead last of every champion. It's because of his unique setup of firing two shots per attack before reloading, which deliberately stretches out the gap per shot. Looking only at the number, he's the slowest attacker in the whole game.
Attack speed growth: who gets faster by levelling
| Attack speed growth (per level) | Value |
|---|---|
Gnar | 6% |
Azir | 5% |
Kalista | 4.5% |
Unlike raw speed, growth brings out a different lineup. The top is Gnar (6%), matching his character as the tiny form pattering out attacks. Champions built around basic attacks as their core, like Azir's soldiers or Kalista, tend to sit near the top.
HP growth: who gets tanky — and is it a mage?
| HP growth (per level) | Value |
|---|---|
Galio | 126 |
Ryze | 124 |
Sylas | 122 |
Alistar | 120 |
Mixed in among the expected tanks, the mage Ryze (124) takes second place. Feeling oddly tough to whittle down mid-game isn't your imagination — Ryze's HP growth is tank-tier. His base stats are built tough from the ground up.
At the other end, the smallest growth belongs to Yuumi (69), followed by Gnar and Kled. Champions who cover for a fragile body with a mount or a partner.
Wrapping up
Raw stats show a champion's design intent directly. A jungler pushing through with attack count, Graves slowest of all due to his reload quirk, a mage with tank-level HP growth. Strength ultimately shifts with items and scaling, so base values alone don't decide it, but the answer to why does this champion move the way it does is hiding, more often than you'd expect, in these numbers. What stat should we dig into next?
